Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Strategies in Static Frequency Converters
Mathematical Synthesis of Output Waveforms
The precision of a Static Frequency Converter is governed by its modulation strategy. This document analyzes Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) compared to traditional Sinusoidal PWM. SVPWM allows for a more efficient utilization of the DC bus voltage and reduces the switching losses in the IGBTs.
By adjusting the "Duty Cycle" of the high-frequency switching pulses, the SFC can simulate a perfect $50$ Hz or $60$ Hz sine wave. The document also details the "Filter Stage" (LCL filters) required at the output to strip away the high-frequency switching noise, ensuring that the final power delivered to the load is smooth and compatible with sensitive industrial machinery.
